Tuesday was a busy day:

  • 7 am PET Scan
  • 1 pm Radiology check up
  • 3 pm Visiting nurse

It was a lot of activity for me but I still felt raring to go so I guess that’s a good sign ;) I’m glad I didn’t do any more because everytime I am overly active lately, it takes at least two days to recover.  Today, I feel much better- more rest, less coughing and able to walk easier.

Radiation was an emergency-type solution to quickly anihilate the tumor that was encroaching on my spinal nerves.  Surgery had been considered, however, it is more risky to the delicate tissues so a strong dose of radiation was prescribed.

At Tuesday’s radiology check-up, I realized something shocking. My radiologist, whom I adore and trust completely, told me that when it came to blasting my tumor, he had to decide between damaging my heart or damaging my lungs.  This was not news.  What struck me, was how fortunate I am that he chose to risk damaging my lungs.

Why was this a lucky thing?  Well, after my first round of chemo, I ended up in the ER for some pretty severe complications that led to my two week hospital stay.  During this time, it was discovered that not only did I have a blood clot in each leg but one in my heart, a.k.a., a pulmonary embolism.  Scary stuff dudes and dudettes.  Such a blessing that my heart wasn’t chosen, otherwise, any damage caused by the radiation could have made my health much worse.

You can see why I adore my radiologist. ;)  Actually, he says I’m his favorite patient…and no, I don’t believe he says that to all the girls! LOL

I believe I am lucky/blessed to be alive.  This is the 4th time in my life I could have died.  Being that I have lived each time, I am guessing I will be ok.  My recent prayers have asked for one thing to improve, either my lungs or my legs.  BOTH have improved. It is wonderful to feel SOMETHING change for the better.  Mind you, I still can’t do cartwheels (not that I ever could LOL!) but little improvements such as breathing a bit easier and walking a bit better help the mental state so very much.

Your prayers and thoughts are working, my Warrior Peeps!  Thank you for hanging in there with me as I maneuver yet another twist in this crazy life.  Love y’all!  :)
